However, the European Union has flourished and executed a rigid policy framework, since the 1990s, which has decelerated and restricted the research and development of genetically modified crops. North America is expected to hold dominant position due to rapid increasing acceptance of genetically modified crops in the region. Soybeans, canola, barely, wheat, and alfalfa are some of the crops which have been cultivated in North America on a large scale and are also exported to various countries across the globe. Further, Bayer AG acquired the U.S. based biotech Monsanto Company, to assist and enhance harvest even better in the U.S. in June 2018.
