Various international agencies are involved in providing trainings to health care professionals in order to perform biobank based research, which in turn, is expected to boost growth of the global biobanks market. For instance, in February 2019, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as part of the Bridging Biobanking and Biomedical Research across Europe and Africa (B3Africa) project, has launched the Biobank Learning platform which allows freely accessible learning resources to professionals involved in biobank-based research. Topics included in learning resources include biobanking infrastructure, collection and management of samples and data, and bioinformatics.

On the flip side, biobanks are lacking technological advances such as limited availability of specimens, managing the specimen inventory etc.; thereby restraining growth of the market. For instance, according to the research conducted by iSpecimen in May 2018, 67% of the participating biobanks mentioned underutilization of samples for research purposes owing to the scarcity of samples.

North America is anticipated to be in leading position in the global biobanks market owing to the rising awareness and initiatives by key players to develop biobanks. For instance, in October 2019, the U.S. based non-profit group for research, and patient care, named CureDuchenne, in partnership with Dr. Tahseen Mozaffar of the University of California, Irvine (UCI), initiated the development of a biobank for the samples of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD; Duchenne). This initiative allows to begin sample collection at large scale and ultimately help in developing medicine against the disease.
